Our practice Mind Body Therapeutics is frequently asked: what is meant by a Holistic Approach to Behavioral Health therapy and what makes it different than what another practice offers?
We thought this would be a good time to expel theories and provide some answers.
In using the word "Holistic" we are referring to utilizing a perceptive process that encompasses major aspects of your physiological and psychological life when starting you off i.e. completing the initial intake.
Prior to any plan of therapy, you will be asked questions related to events of your past. This is important as we need to understand if you have experienced any acute traumatic events. Equally important, would be learning about your initial affecting relationships, as well as those you may currently have.
Regarding your physical self, you may be asked questions related to lifestyle choices and wellness of how you treat your body.
Why is this important you ask?
Good or bad physical or mental health depends on the health of your brain and gut. If the brain has excessive or deficient dopamine or serotonin, the body and brain lack harmony and calm. Also, trauma in the brain from past events or a childhood history of neglect, may lead to a compromised body and brain followed up with poor physical and/or poor mental health.
Just to be sure, we are not "reinventing the wheel", just rather making sure it travels farther, longer and quieter to new and exciting places.
Be well!
