Neurofeedback is a computer-driven technology that takes advantage of the brain’s neuroplasticity. This means that the brain can change at any age until the day of death. It used to be thought that after age 8 or so, the brain would remain in a fixed state. Today, this is as ridiculous an idea as believing that the earth is flat.
Indeed the brain can be changed for good or bad and changes all the time with every single experience we undergo. So trauma at age 8 or 10 or 5 or 20 can be neutralized and Neurofeedback is one such intervention that can do that along with other brain-based interventions like EMDR, and certain hypnotherapy-based ways as well.
Neurofeedback can help improve a variety of symptoms that can interfere with happiness and satisfaction in one’s life. Neurofeedback trains the brain to function optimally. It consists of a computer, a Neurofeedback program, electrodes, and a comfortable chair. The patient sits in the chair, the technician attaches electrodes to the patient’s brain at certain key areas of the brain depending on what the problem is. Each session takes about one hour to complete, and the patient usually goes to sleep as the brain goes into a type of partial sleep state. Neurofeedback measures brain waves and changes brain activity. It not only changes problems, but it also changes the way people can perform at whatever activities they want to excel in.
Neurofeedback can be used for anxiety, depression, OCD, autism, emotional and behavioral issues, learning and developmental delays, brain injuries, and just about anything that someone is challenged with regarding their behavior or performance. The important point here is that Neurofeedback actually changes the way the brain functions.
