Positive Psychology---- How to Understand it and Practice It

Positive psychology is just about the study of  living the “good life” and all the constructive and plus aspects that go into a happy and nice life experience.  This is the kind of life that makes you want to get up in the morning and achieve!  Positive Psychology is a reaction to the medical model of “mental illness” which identifies the person with the illness and makes the two inseparable. It’s like saying  “I’m borderline” rather than saying  “I have characteristics of borderline personality disorder”.  The medical model emphasizes maladaptive behavior and negative thinking. Positive Psychology emphasizes happiness, peace, positive reactions to life and self and feeling good about life.


How do we create happiness in life?  Good ties with a partner, family, friends and wider social and professional networks; and also physical exercise; meditation; and good healthy, clean eating.   The formal word for the good life is eudaimonia. We know that the practice of all the main parts of Positive Psychology leads to good mental health, healthy stable relationships; and good physical health.


To do all of this one must heal one’s past of any traumas and serious roadblocks that keep the brain in unfortunate loops that make us stall our progress in life.


Happiness is not adding more material THINGS to our lives.  Happiness is having goals and maximizing our goals; imagining our goals and future and thinking them into existence.
